Children Showcasing their Talent: SEP Talent Show

The Summer Explosion Program went American Idol style, with its annual SEP Talent Show. The entire camp gathered together, along with family, friends and supporters, in Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church to watch the many campers perform their very best. There were cheerleaders, steppers, singers, dancers, drummers and rappers, displaying everything from gospel songs to the latest dance crazes. The crowd even learned how to “Dougie”.

The talent show had its panel of three staff judges giving insightful and encouraging reviews of each performer. The crowd was great and the peer to peer motivation was invaluable.  The sense of pride and accomplishment was clear to the children and to their families, reminding all of us that everyone has a special talent.

"I attended the summer camp as a child, worked as a summer camp counselor, and worked as a second-grade youth tutor in the after-school program. The children are not just taught academics; they are taught to have pride in their community, family and God.

                                             - Darius McGhee, former SEP student
