Young, Gifted, and Black

We are so excited to be able to share a lit bit about our work with you via The Heinz Endowments continued generosity!  We'll be updating regularly about who we are and the kind of work we produce. We are a collective of socially conscious Hip Hop artists and activists who utilize art as a means of raising awareness about social justice matters effecting people around the world. We offer performance, written and visual art to connect communities and amplify messages.  We provide workshops, curriculum consultation, media literacy training, conflict resolution, lyricism/song writing, vocal instruction, music production, blogging, photography and videography. Further, we offer consultation to artists seeking to establish a fruitful independent career. In addition, 1Hood Media provides youth based training in media literacy and creation of media via 1Hood Media Academy. Focused on training arts entrepreneurs, the Academy provides a platform for artists to tell their own stories and provides avenues in which to young people can utilize their own gifts and talents to secure financial sustainability. Additionally, 1Hood Media also organizes and promotes educational and performance based forums as a part of our programming entitled The Pittsburgh Hip Hop Collective.
